Thailand, Asia.

Thailand, Asia.

Thailand, officially the Kingdom of Thailand is a country in Southeast Asia with coasts on the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. It borders Myanmar (Burma) to the northwest, Laos to the northeast, Cambodia to the southeast and Malaysia to the south.

With great food, a tropical climate, fascinating culture, majestic mountains and greatbeaches, Thailand is a magnet for travellers around the world.

Thailand is a constitutional monarchy and has switched between parliamentary democracy and military junta for decades, the latest coup being in May 2014 by the National Council for Peace and Order. Its capital and most populous city is Bangkok.

Sports & nature

Sports & natureThai sport is part of Thai culture which has been passed on from generation to generation. Sporting activities of Thais blend well into their agricultural way of life. It is another form of group relationship enhancement during the cultivating and harvesting periods. Thai sport is also a form of entertainment which takes place during religious and royal ceremonies and festivals. Thais young and old come together to participate in exciting games which are oftentimes humorous. Thai sport reflects the Thais' way of life and their intellectual subtlety. It is a fine bond that has bound the Thai people through a long past until today. The most popular sports played in Thailand are: Thai Boxing, Sword Fighting, Boat Racing, Bull Fighting, Kite Flying and Thai Chess. Thailand is largely tropical, so it's hot and humid all year around with temperatures in the 28-35°C range (82-95°F), a degree of relief provided only in the mountains in the far north of Thailand. The temperature is cold from November to the end of February, it doesn't rain much and temperatures are at their lowest, although you will barely notice the difference in the south and will only need to pack a sweater if hiking in the northern mountains. Hot from March to June and Rainy from July to October, although it only really gets under way in September, tropical monsoons hit most of the country.

Nightlife info

Nightlife infoNightlife in Thailand has evolved over the years, with the emphasis now firmly on swanky rooftop bars, lively nightclubs and hip cocktail bars. The Thai capital Bangkok now has so much more to offer than just the adult-themed fun of Patpong, Nana and Soi Cowboy. Any discussion of nightlife in Thailand can’t ignore the party scene at Khao San Road, or the more laidback Soi Rambuttri next door, whilst Thonglor across town seems to have a trendy new bar opening up every week. Clubbers in Bangkok are spoilt for choice too, with big names on Sukhumvit, Silom and the gauntlet of superclubs at RCA all packed-out with tourists and locals most nights of the week.

Culture and history info

Culture and history infoThai culture is deeply influenced by religion. With around 95% of the country being Theraveda Buddhist, the belief system and values of Buddhism play a huge role in day-to-day life. Throughout the country, the most important values that Thai people hold to are respect, self-control, and a non-confrontational attitude. The earliest identifiably Thai kingdom was founded in Sukhothai in 1238, reaching its zenith under King Ramkhamhaeng in the 14th century before falling under the control of the kingdom of Ayutthaya, which ruled most of present-day Thailand and much of today's Laos and Cambodia as well, eventually also absorbing the northern kingdom of Lanna.
